This is the first art book to delve into the core of the work of Rockin'Jelly Bean, one of Japan's premier lowbrow artists who enjoys enduring popularity both at home and abroad. The collection focuses on works created between 1990—when he began his career—and around 2004, a period spanning his breakthrough in Los Angeles and his return to Japan to launch his own brand.
Spanning approximately 240 pages and organized into six chronological chapters, the book covers his background, the journey to becoming an active artist who wears a signature mask and creates music-oriented illustrations, and his relentless dedication to his craft. Since most of the featured pieces are original artworks, the book faithfully reproduces the originals by photographing and digitizing the actual works and employing high-definition, six-color printing for pieces featuring fluorescent colors. Also not to be missed are pages showcasing his unique, hand-drawn typography and reproductions of his original print-specification manuscripts, complete with his own handwritten instructions on tracing paper.
